Spring on fire?

SpringAt last Spring seems with us despite the false dawns after a mild but very wet winter. So it was good to finish the cutting back of my own herbaceous borders and have the ultimate Spring Clean.

Burning old grasses echoes the techniques used by nature to clear up old prairies and encourage new growth. Unloved slugs are at the same time dispatched and the residual ash provides a free source of nitrogen.

Meanwhile the stunning limey green Euphorbia Characais Wulfenii continues to flower its heart out, even at the base of a mature Laburnum, whilst Narcissus Februray Gold has been flowering for weeks.
