After we moved in, I had a vision of creating a new garden, sympathetic to nature and wildlife, whilst maintaining a softness to the rectangular shape by means of intersecting and flowing pathways and a simple elegant terrace. I envisioned environmentally friendly lawns as well as a pond with a rill. I was fortunate enough to work with Nicola Wakefield who brilliantly modified and translated my ideas into reality. Nicola suggested Rob Jones as the main contractor for the project and I must say that he and his team completed the job on time, extremely professionally and with great attention to detail. They were charming, polite and made sure that I was kept fully informed. Their execution was excellent, and the finished garden exceeded my expectations - moreover they were a pleasure to work with!
ANNIE | A WONDERLAND IN WIMBLEDON
We live in a 15th century Manor House with quite an extensive garden. The garden was quite cluttered with a lot of small beds with box hedges around the beds and Ligustrum and Hornbeam trees growing in the beds and around the house. It took an awful lot of work to keep the garden tidy with a lot of hedges and Ligustrum cutting and pruning. Rob had done a lot of work on my sister`s garden so we decide to ask him to give our garden a “make over”. He and his team have done a marvellous job transforming our garden. All the little beds have been replaced by 3 large raised beds each with a beautiful cherry tree. Where we had lots of gravel paths, these have been replaced with resin gravel, so no weeds. We have a river running through our garden which had a crazy paving path which was all broken and twisted. This has been replaced with a lovely York stone path. The whole garden has been transformed. His team have done an amazing job working in some of the worst weather we have had.
CATHERINE | THE MANOR
My husband and eldest son passed away, within a ten month period, so a couple of years later I chose to move house to escape all the sad memories. Having found the perfect new home in an ideal location, the small, awkward garden was an unfortunate compromise. It was unloved, overgrown, poorly paved and dominated by a double garage - not the lush haven I had envisaged. I am so grateful my SOS call to Rob resulted in the stunning transformation I see today. The expertise, attention to detail and enthusiasm of Rob, Marian and the wonderful team, who soldiered on despite the horrendous winter weather, was impressive. Reconnecting with Rob, as in times past, was a wise decision, reassuring and just 'felt right’. Now I am the proud owner of an inviting garden, somewhere to relax, entertain and reflect on my special rope swing, in seclusion. My nemesis has evolved into a dear friend and we can grow old together enjoying each other's company.
HILARY | HELP ME PLEASE
I wanted a cottage garden and I got one. Paid for by cashing some of my ISA’s. At least this investment is growing. Pays to use the professionals!
MF | COTSWOLD GARDEN
I am delighted with my new garden and everyone who has seen it so far is amazed at what you have managed to do with such a small and unexciting original space.
LH | WOODCOTE
I have enjoyed working with you and Sophie and am very pleased with the outcome of the project. The standard of workmanship is exemplary.
SB | PANGBOURNE
Thanks so much for spending so much time showing me the two gardens today. I can see that you are brilliant at all aspects of design, build and maintenance of very fine gardens indeed. I much enjoyed seeing Chiltern Estate in particular, and can see your mark on The Berkshire Manor House too. Both are lovely and very inspirational. Your workmanship is second to none - I am truly impressed.
VERONICA MACKINNON | GARDEN DESIGN & GARDEN TOURS
From the start of the design process everyone associated with this project has been professional, enthusiastic and hard working. The transformation from ‘Jungle’ to stunning wildlife pond plus our ‘wedding’ cherry trees and wild flowers has been amazing. We really couldn’t have asked for more and are delighted with the results.
LL | WASTELAND TO WONDERLAND
Rob Jones, who runs The Garden Design Company, has developed gardens for us twice in new build homes. In each case the gardens we had inherited were about a third of an acre and had been simply turfed over by the developers. Blank canvasses. We are not gardeners, but wanted a lovely garden to enjoy and to enhance our home. After taking great care to understand what we were looking for - and our budget - Rob and his team prepared design ideas to discuss with us. In each case these were very different, suiting the different environments and characters of each house (and incorporating a knowledge and imagination that would have been far beyond us), which we were very happy to agree with only the most minor changes. His team were wonderful, implementing the designs in a few days. Rob paid several follow-up visits to see how the gardens developed and swapping out the occasional plants that had not developed as well as hoped. We had years of pleasure from the first garden, in Buckinghamshire, watching it change every year as it matured (it started well and just got better and better). In the end I think it was largely due to that garden that we sold the house! On the strength of this we asked Rob to repeat the process when we retired to the Cotswolds a year ago, and are now loving the daily changes as the new plants develop and bloom - in sequence, like a fireworks display. When Rob visits now it is like meeting an old friend. We have no hesitation in recommending Rob and The Garden Design Company.
